IRC
IRC is an acronym for Internet Relay Chat. Since AMZ's beginning, it has had an IRC channel. All AMZ users are free to join and take an active part on IRC.

Pre-WIN
Edit
The original AMZ channel on IRC was hosted on a server run by the old AMZ user Sean.
The web-based client to connect to IRC has a blue background and would only allow you to be in one channel at a time. Later the colors green, yellow, and a light red (possibly pink) were added. It is unlikely, although possible, that they were intentionally chosen because they were the color of the Goop Sacks.
WIN
Edit
After a while, AMZ moved to the WorldIRCNet network run by Gadget, Jodel, Twitter, BA, and Gamekypr. The channel was called #aftermath. Since it spent most of its time on this network, AMZ and WIN became very close. A number of AMZ staff became IRC staff and a number of WIN staff became AMZ staff. BA even ran the (Super) Enigma for a long time and set up the automated password retrieval system for anyone who forgot their password.
The channel services bot was G. Gadget hosted protectionbot of the channel called Sentinel, whcih was an Eggdrop modified by Anbo and techdude. Additionally, techdude (later also known as techchick) also hosted Techbot, a fun bot. BA also hosted AftermathServ, a funbot. Ken would from time to time bring in his bot, Oracle. Dargon also hosted the funbot called galdor, however it was banned from the channel most of the time due to inappropriate content.
The IRC operator services bot was named Grunt and the nickname services bot was named NickServ.
WIN ran the extinct IRCd, Raptor IRCd version 1.0.4, with the services by, the now defunct, IRCore. The services used were modified and the version numbers were updated, therefore although the last official release (please note: the version numbers in the Header are different from the text on the page, the page list CS 5.1 and UWorld 8.1) of ChanServ was 6.2 (copyright 1998), G ran version 6.3; for OperServ, it was 9.2, although Grunt ran 9.3; NickServ, both the official version and the version used on the network was aversion 1.2. WorldIRCNets Message Of The Day told everyone the important info needed.
Memoserv was also later on introduced and mostly handmade by Gadget and BA from bits and pieces from the IRCore services.
The Core Conflict also had a channel on WIN, #TCC. It was also home to AMS.
At a certain point, the green, yellow, and red java clients were removed and only the blue one remained.
After a number of years, a large amount of drama began to occur on IRC and Ken eventually decided to remove IRC from being an official part of AMZ. This occurred after TCC died. The channel still remained and was active for many months before slowly dying.
After-WIN
Edit
After some personal problems for Gadget and BA retired from AMZ and WIN, the 3 main servers (2 Dutch by Gadget and 1 BElgium by BA) stopped working and the server slowly began to die out while GameKyprs continued to run the network with many names like Stalk Zone and later on SNSIrc.
Sadly due to the low number of users on IRC by AMZ the WIN (WorldIrcNet)server quickly came to an end.
Post-AMZ
Edit
After AMZ died, Stalk Zone/SNSIRC died, although during the WIN era the channel had all but been abandoned and was dead. And during the numerous revival attempts, AMZ has been hosted on several different networks. Each revival attempt has had its own preffered IRC network.

Edit
AMZ was hosted on Freenode for a while, and then AMZ set up its own server. Currently, AMZ is hosted on irc.aftermathzone.com on port 6667, in the channel #amz. It can also be accessed through this java applet. You may have to click the Ok/Yes/Run button for it to work.
In early/mid June 2010, Dargon began working on a bot, Rens_Fro, to be a redesigned version of AftermathServ. To see which commands it has, type "!showcommands" in IRC (without the quotes).
