What Are Characters? Edit

Characters are creatures that a member can create or buy and care for. The range from a variety of species and types.

Like on any traditional pet site, characters need to be fed and played with. Additionally, they can be trained for battle in the arena and be read books to gain intelligence. Fairly unique to AMZ, they can also date, marry, reproduce and go to school.

They are considered to be more intelligent than the virtual pets of norm. Some, like the Squall, have even become human-like in both personality and appearance. Characters can communicate vocally with humans and have used this to their advantage by opening up shops and running features. Members view these creatures as companions or friends as opposed to pets, and bestow them with individual personalities and back stories.

Orbs could be used to change a character's appearance and stats. On the new AMZ, Orbs do not affect stats and there are other means of Enchanting your character other than orbing him/her/it.

Characters had a number of stats that could be modified through various means. Here is an incomplete list of all the stats that char's had:

Why Not Pets? Edit

In the beginning, AMZ had pets. Neopets threatened to subpoena Ken over a number of things, the largest of these being the inventory system. Ken was actually planning on changing it due to their similarities, however because of the subpoena, it became a much bigger priority. As another way to distance itself from Neopets and to make itself more unique, Ken decided that AMZ would have characters. This change was never fully completed and there were some relics on AMZ from the time when AMZ had pets, such as the book Magic and Your Pet, and the character statistics page where the URL included the word "pet."

How are Characters Different? Edit

The change is mostly cosmetic. However, the term character denotes that these are not simply the same thing you see at every pet site, but rather they each have their own unique personality. These personalities can be displayed through role playing. Additionally, two of the more unique aspects at AMZ are character-related, dating and kids. Most other pet sites have strict rules against dating and do not have a system implemented for reproducing. Dating is already out, and kids will be introduced at a later date.

Other UsageEdit

Old AMZ Edit

On the Old AMZ, one of the major area to do things related to your character was called Characters. This is where you directly interacted with your character as opposed to dealing with items that could be used on your character. This is where Dating, Kids, and Babysitting lived. The other three were Nylanta Street, Items and Bartering, and Walk Around.

New AMZ Edit

On the New AMZ, the Characters page is simply a showing of your characters with links to view and edit their profile. This is also where you can access the Woods and can view all of the enchanted species.

Trivia Edit

• AMZ had 34 characters before dying, with an option to purchase a custom character.
• Only the Barbarian has been confirmed to not be returning

• The Cap and the Heliax were meant to be released on the old AMZ but never had a chance to roam free.
• The Lumineel used to be a SPA NPC.
• The Snogo, the Bibby, the Kuzel, the Junivi, the Dodu, the Fro, and the Casyorel are all new AMZ original characters.
• Only the Squido has not been re-released yet.
